New Year is a new start.  Here are some habits that may make a difference to the quality of your life.

1. Give one genuine compliment a day

A kind, genuine, thoughtful compliment is like a form of magic, it has the power to turn someone’s day around in an instant and make them feel happy and appreciated.  You never know – it might just be what the other person needed at that particular moment.

2. Go someplace you’ve never been

Step outside of your comfort zone and do something different.  You never know what you can discover on the journey.  The human mind craves new experiences.  The more you see, the more inspired your life will be.

3. Talk to yourself with kindness

We aim to be nice to others but then criticize ourselves relentlessly.  We all need to treat ourselves with the same kindness and care.  By turning the inner criticism into inner acknowledgement and encouragement, we can start to feel good about ourselves.  Start talking to ourselves like how we talk to someone we really love.  It makes a huge difference.

4. Start a new hobby

Do something new that you have never done before.  Let yourself blossom in the New Year.  As children, we are experts at finding new hobbies.  We play sports, take dance and music lessons… but somewhere on the path to adulthood, we stop trying new things and spend much less time on our non-career interests.  Get inspired, spark your interest, and follow your passion towards a new hobby.

5. Send handwritten letters

Handwritten letters are a wonderful way to connect with people in our lives.  When was the last time you received a handwritten letter that was not a birthday card?  If you are like most people, the answer is “I honestly can’t remember”.  Handwritten letters are exceedingly rare in the age of email.  Nobody does this anymore, and it’s such a thoughtful, genuine gesture.  Make somebody’s day!

6. Go to bed happy each night

A good night’s sleep is the bridge between finishing off a day and starting another one.  Aim to start and end each day with happiness and gratitude.  Close your eyes and think about the things that you are grateful for on this day.  No matter how difficult and defeating life can sometimes feel, there is always something to be grateful for.  Listen to a couple of relaxing songs, make sure the bedroom is nice and fresh, essential oils can help with creating a soothing atmosphere too.  Falling asleep with good thoughts, will help you to wake up the same.

7. Pay it Forward

Did someone do something nice for you recently?  And how did you feel when you received their act of kindness?  2022 is a great time to do something nice for one another.  Perhaps you will pay for someone’s coffee in a drive-thru or buy a meal for a homeless person.  If you have been blessed, be a blessing to others too.

We hope these ideas help you.  Life is short, make it a good one and enjoy 2022 to its fullest!
